Jul. 5th, 2005 03:49 pmAll the stuff in the news about Hurricane or Tropical Storm or Whatever Cindy has left me wanting to yell 'Marsha Marsha Marsha!', even though it's the wrong Brady-name. There, I've said it.
More importantly, it's made me realize... this is the first hurricane season in six years when I haven't been hovering in front of a television or news feed of some kind, cursing when I didn't hear a weather report. I'm not responsible for marking anything on a map, or opening a new fund to hold hurricane-related money, or anything like that. I have no chance of winding up in a smelly hotel in Louisiana for three weeks at a stretch, or being asked to drive a huge clumsy truck over a thousand miles, or...
It's so weird to see hurricane season from a civilian's point of view.

"My quest for the real Betty Crocker was a quest for... America, really. The American ideal. And you know what? I think I may have found it. Farewell."
*thinks for a minute* "Overly hyped, but basically a good broad?"

Jul. 5th, 2005 08:25 pmApparently the reason that my undercarriage was not sore most of the day is because I was not exerting actual pressure upon it. In the interests of maintaining some fitness-type activity, I took the bike out today to go to the supermarket- not the one three blocks away, nor the one a full PATH stop away, but one near the Hoboken border that I'd only seen in passing before. As soon as I got a leg over that thing... yeah, ow.
Went away once I resettled my weight, at least.
1.4 miles out, some time spent poking around the supermarket, 1.4 miles back with the ill-balanced bags dangling from my wrists (I have gotta rig up that carrier). Then I had to get the food and the bike up the stairs. memo to self: TWO TRIPS, YOU IDIOT. Groceries first. Bike LATER.
We're back and unharmed now, though the bike's bottle holder lost a bolt (my fault- I used it to brace the U-lock). I will post pictures of the bike after I have had dinner, I think.
