New Diary of a Mountie entry up.

Oh, and I've made a bargain with [livejournal.com profile] utsuri. If she produces a certain number of words per day (averaged over the course of a week) on a novel idea of hers for NaNoWriMo... I'll produce one Sergeant Preston piece every two days. Whether it's a proper Diary entry, a short story, a scrap of something that's supposed to be a short story, or (God help me) the alternate-universe version that seems to have coalesced around the idea of a modern version of the Sergeant, I'll produce. Thought you should know.

Had to do my laundry before taking a shower this morning. While the dryer was running, I figured I'd do something with my time, so there's a new Diary of a Mountie entry up. La la la.

Going into NY tomorrow to visit my grandparents. I intend to take the Long Island Railroad out there; I haven't been able to get my car repaired this week after all, and while the brakes perform as well as always, I would just as soon not aggravate them. Also, I have knitting to work on for my father's birthday present, and the great thing about trains is that you can knit while someone else does all the driving.

Other than that not much going on at the moment. Must go deal with my laundry so I can get the rest of the day done. Enjoy the Diary entry, those of you who read such things. Standard disclaimer: If you're in [livejournal.com profile] cadhla's LXG 1936 West Coast group, don't click the link.

Today I went to Treasure Island, a local chain craft store. I was after yarn, and spent quite some time trying to decide on whether I wanted two skeins of Lion Brand's sport weight Wool-Ease or just one. After I made up my mind (one), I went upstairs and began poking through the Christmas section. I was hoping to find a decent card to send out, since I do not draw holiday cards like [livejournal.com profile] cadhla and have yet to figure out how to knit one. I didn't find anything. That's okay, the holidays are a ways off...

The thing is that the area with the cards in it is also full of Christmas trees, and one of them could really only be described as a Hogswatch tree. No other word for it, even if Hogswatch trees are supposed to be oak, not conifer. It was a needley tree of some kind, and it was completely covered in, well, pigs. Almost every single ornament on the tree was shaped like a pig. Where there weren't pigs, there were a few cows, or the occasional Santa in overalls and the sort of boots one uses to wade through layers of pig doo. And anywhere that didn't have an ornament had what looked like sheaves of wheat and other harvesty things poking out of it.

It's a Hogswatch tree. What else can I say?

Get on the Crocodile Hunter with nine other Americans for up to sixty days. Dunno if there's a prize or if you just get to go and shovel shit at Australia Zoo; I'm not sure that it even matters, since, yanno, getting on Croc Hunter kicks royal ass.

They're having live auditions in LA on 8 November and NYC on 15 November. I am going to go through my Alaska pictures and see if I've got anything I can bring along for my two requested photos. I don't expect to make it, which is just as well because, yanno, SIXTY DAYS is a bit of a while... but hell, Steve's going to actually be in New York for the live auditions. I don't see why I shouldn't give it a go.
