Sad news, my friends...
May. 19th, 2003 11:24 am... I have not seen Stupid the Robin since last Thursday. Her nest is still in the tree, but neither on Friday nor today has she put in an appearance. Someone was pruning her tree today; perhaps she was scared off? I don't know. I may try to have a look in the nest at lunchtime and see if anything ever came of it or not. Such a pity.
On the bright side, my radiator light did not come on when I drove to work today. Granted, I took a different route from usual, but when I tested the car over the same route as usual on Sunday it didn't come on either. Since Sunday is a much quicker day along that route I continued to drive the car for an hour; the light flashed very briefly (ten seconds or less, always blinking, never steady) while I was at a stoplight about forty-five minutes into the drive. I'm holding my breath, crossing my fingers, and driving as little as possible, although I have to drive to my credit union at lunchtime. bah.
cadhla, I may have a little something for you when you come to New York. My office has emptied the foreign currency donation kiosk again and there's a LOT of paper money in it. Most of it is old stuff from Euro-using countries, now worthless; some of it is still in use but has ridiculously low exchange rates. I'm leaving the expensive stuff like the Scottish pound or the two hundred kroner notes (those come out to around $2.55 each), but I've told the Accounting office I'll pay 'em a quarter for anything worth US $0.25 or less. Or for anything whose denomination we can't make out - there are some bills that have a guy in an outfit that makes him look awfully Nepalese. He's not wearing a crown, just a high-collared suit and lots of medals, so we can't tell where the hell those bills are from. Garuda in the corners, if I'm making out the picture right. They're written in the same sort of script you see on older Nepalese money. There's also a battered bill from some Arabic country, but the only Roman lettering on it is in the serial number and the only graphic design I recognize on it is the crescent moon and star (crescent facing up and to the left, star between and a little above the tips of the crescent, forming a low triangle with said tips). I don't think that's Turkish, as there's a 500,000 Turkish lira note in the bunch (it's worth thirty-three cents) and half the writing on that is in the Roman alphabet. Anyone have any idea what this battered looking Arabic bill is? It's two of whatever the currency is, there are numerals in the corners.
