At about 2 1/2 inches into my first piece of knitwork in a dog's age, I caught myself thinking for the fifth or sixth time that there was little, if any, visual difference in the two sides. This, I knew, was not right, for I was knitting one direction and purling the other, and to do so is inevitably to cause a difference. So, lacking in someone on hand to ask for guidance, I wisely chose to visit my local library and borrow a book on the subject (sadly, not the one in which the pattern for my begun-but-never-completed sweater resides).

And found out that, just as happened when I FIRST tried to learn to knit, I was royally *!&()ing up the purl stitches. I seem to have done a rather nice job of producing two and a half inches' worth of twisted purling that has left my work looking like it's almost entirely garter stitch. NOT what I was after.

I hope Warm Up America doesn't mind a *!&()ed up 7" x 9" afghan square when I'm done with this one, because I'm not about to undo all the work I've done so far, whether for correction or for simple unraveling. It's either them or Project Linus and I don't think this piece is the right size for a preemie blanket.

I'm so embarrassed. At least it was only my test piece, not the scarf I hope to work on...

So are you saying that you're feeling like a knit-wit?ˇ
