I’m officially at the stage of perimenopause where I have to decide whether the menstrual clot that I passed is ‘the size of my middle finger’ or ‘somewhat longer than my disposable razor’. This has happened twice so far.


of all the nameless but notable figures in the Gospel out there, I never expected to find myself identifying with the woman with the issue of blood. Yeesh.

*winces in uterus-haver sympathy* Yeowch! Well, hopefully not that much of a yeowch, but still.

Sympathy, from my uterus to yours. I had some gnarly clots last year before I yeeted the fibroid that had taken up residence. I'm hoping I've paid my dues with all that and as I get further into peri, it'll just leave me in peace...

So, about that fibroid. Size? What kind of removal procedure are we looking at? I ask because my gyno's assessment last time she had them do an ultrasound of Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde was 'leave them until menopause and they should shrink after that', but, uh, that was before I got to the point of *checks app* 18-20 days of consecutive bleeding per cycle on a regular basis, and DEF. before the clots that I had previously only heard about in the menopause chapter of Raging Hormones!.

It was like...pea size when I got my first ultrasound in 2021; I'm not sure what it measured as by the time I had it removed - I don't think it had grown a ton.

I had a hysteroscopic myomectomy. They go in through the vag and cervix and shave that sucker down. My GYN also said she cleaned up a little while she was in there and shaved down another spot that felt like it could have been a fibroid but that wasn't quite as visible on scans.

They did mine under general anesthesia and I was back home an hour after I woke up.

I'd definitely push for intervention with the lengthy bleeding. Menopause is too far out for that nonsense.
