Went poking through Bandcamp today and ran across an interesting article about a group called Lee Bains + The Glory Fires. On the one hand, I'm kind of curious about the subject matter. The album is described as being 'about outlaws and revolutionaries from Bains’ home states of Alabama and Georgia'- Angela Davis, Joy Harjo, “Cherokee and Mayan survivors banging on Appalachian prison bars” or “Communist lawyers and sharecroppers parting courthouse lynch mobs", etc.

On the other hand, the album is described as a punk rock epic, and the entirety of my experience with punk rock has been the time I attempted to listen to the Sex Pistols (I don't remember which album) as part of research before writing John Constantine fanfic. I remember not liking the experience at all.

Debating buying the album anyway. If you happen to have any familiarity with the group, give me a holler. Thanks.

hahahaha omg yes. acquainted more in theory than in practice -- my bff from grad school in mississippi (who grew up near muscle shoals, went to school in tuscaloosa, etc.) is tight with lee bains. as a band, they're often grouped with the drive-by truckers but def lean more punk -- but the songwriting is more about storytelling than the sex pistols, for sure.
