Serger appears to be okay. Repair shop said I'd done a number on one of the fingers somehow but it was something that could be fixed with a new needle plate, and that is a part that I could replace myself because it was held in place by two flathead screws. (I got the impression the store guy either didn't want to repair a Singer- he didn't seem to think highly of the brand since it basically sold off its manufacturing and now just slaps its name on machines other companies make- or else didn't want to charge me for his time, because he asked if it was under warranty and winced when I said I bought it refurbished.) I bought the part and somehow managed to haul myself home despite being exhausted to the point of having to consciously will myself to do everything one step at a time, including things like 'get the bike up the steps to get it out of the rain' and 'walk up the steps to my apartment'. Not sure what left me that tired, might have been hormones... anyway I eventually managed to replace the needle plate and did some testing on fabric scraps, so I am almost sure I'm good now. I'll have to try it on a few other pieces of fabric later.

Meantime, though, I promised a friend I'd make her some new masks, and the fabric she wanted me to use for the outer layer arrived today. (I had enough of the same fabric on hand to make one piece of one mask. It was a Joann exclusive and Joann no longer has it in stock. There were eBay sellers offering it; it arrived this morning.) So that's sewing machine work. Finish up the masks, test out the serger a little bit more for safety, and then work on a pair of clone shorts from the pattern I currently have- although I may try tweaking the clones this time to see if I can make the zipper zone a bit less of a mess than the original garment.

I would like to work up an exercise t-shirt for myself after that, since there are going to be days when I'll have to exercise at the office (I wish I could just keep WFH, I feel like time is being stolen from me every time I have to commute) and the sports bra-leggings/tights thing could get awkward fast without a T-shirt. After that I have either a pair of jeans to work up - muslin first, I've never made the Seamwork Tessa pattern before- or cloning to do on a pair of old old Nike pants.

Unless somebody else needs masks, anyway. Or a clone of their own.
