The town I live in has old water pipes. They're going to be doing work on my street from now until sometime in June to replace them. This is understandable; the old pipes had lead and other contaminant issues. But it's not quiet, that's for certain.

I still have the sound-deadening curtains I got last year in the front room. I'm working from home three days a week from now until Labor Day. I'm not sure those curtains are quite enough. Not when they'll be digging up the street, jackhammering the pavement, and launching into the traditional summertime sounds of LAWN MOWERS EVERYWHERE.

Not really loving the idea of buying more of those same curtains- I don't like to put money in Bezos' pocket if I can avoid it, the way Amazon treats people- but...

Well, I just recently finished making some drapery for my nibling's bedroom, and I've found a place that sells fabric for theatrical applications. Not costume fabric. Fabric for hanging on the walls and across the stage of theaters. I was not aware that there were special versions of velour specifically designed for theatrical acoustic needs, or that they make velour from recycled plastic bottles. A commercial soundproof curtain panel for home use consists of three layers of felt and blackout fabric, and felt can be had from any number of places...

How difficult is velour to sew?

It must not be too difficult - my grandmother made EVERYTHING out of velour.

As long as it's not stretch velour, I'm guessing pretty easy! You might want to check if you need a heavier-duty needle than your standard, but IIRC you've been using a variety of weights of fabric anyway, so you may well be all set for needles already.

I'd never heard of special theatrical acoustic velour, and the fact of its existence delights me.
