dear every biology textbook that ever talked about human female reproductive anything:

you lied

dear Marion Zimmer Bradley:

you also lied

dear Jean Auel:

liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiar

'you'll be irregular as a teenager but it'll settle down eventually'
'your hormones will even out and it'll be predictable'
'you can track it by the moon eventually, but go ahead and use a marker of days in case the moon isn't visible'
'as you get older you'll get irregular again but it'll be farther apart, so it'll be like twenty-nine or thirty days one month and then like six weeks and then it'll be back to twenty-eight but it'll eventually just be longer and longer gaps'

LIES, ALL OF THEM

so far this year not one of my cycles has been 28 days long, most of them were 24 or fewer, and this one has come upon me fourteen days after the last one began

It helped that I had a sex-ed teacher when I was younger who totally was like 'For most people, on average, it is about 28 days with 5-8 days of that being menstruation. BUT, some people are always irregular. And some people have longer or shorter periods. And stress or major changes in your life can either bring it on early OR delay it. And we don't really understand all the ins and outs of that. Sorry.'
