camwynMeant to note that I went for a walk yesterday and saw, among other things, a Cooper's hawk.
also I can now understand "OH SHIT YOU GUYS!!" in two different bird systems, thanks to the bluejay that tipped me off to the hawk diving under the trees and through the neighbor's yard.
(I learned to recognize red-winged blackbird alarm calls this spring. Although red-winged blackbirds tend to repeat that sound when they hear other blackbirds making it, so it's either an alarm call or a whole swampful of birds yelling OH SHIT YOU GUYS!! for ten minutes at a time because nobody remembered to say IT'S OKAY THE THREAT IS GONE NOW!.
