Jul. 31st, 2020 10:42 amGot a jury duty summons today, for October 28th, in Chelsea- one of the, if not the, viral epicenters of Massachusetts.
Dug up my jury service forms from the last time I got called. My three years expire at the end of November.
I have no problem showing up for jury duty, it's my responsibility as a citizen, but I'd just as soon not risk it in Chelsea or Lawrence if I have the option. Especially since when I show up for criminal trials, they inevitably ask a question that gets me peremptoried off by the prosecution- seriously, I've sat on two juries, one of which was a civil case* and one of which was a determination-of-whether-this-person-is-still-dangerous case, but I've turned up for at least three other summonses and gotten as far as round 1 or 2 of questioning before the prosecution goes to the judge and says 'that one, send her home'. I'd rather not risk coronavirus just to be sent home, so I'm sending my date of most recent service to the court and asking for an exemption. If they want me after the end of November they can summon me again later.
