Religious Edition
I was baptized and raised Catholic. My mom sent me to a day camp at the Lutheran church nearby for a week or two in the summer. I lived in a heavily Greek neighborhood in New York, and my grandparents lived in an apartment building next door to a Jewish family.
My cousin went to church with our family once when she was visiting. Her dad was Catholic Her mom was Jewish. She said they told her she was Presbyterian.
I'd seen Catholic, Lutheran, and Greek Orthodox churches, and I knew what synagogues were, but I honestly thought 'Presbyterian' was the religious equivalent of 'mutt'.
--
At some point I asked my grandmother what 'Greek Orthodox' meant. Grandma- Catholic, born in the 1920s- said it meant very old-fashioned religion.
I had read several books on mythology by then. I asked if that meant there were statues of Zeus and Athena inside.
Grandma was driving, so she didn't do a spit-take, but I kinda think she wanted to.
