Apr. 27th, 2020 11:25 amQuilting fabric on Michaels.com: $7.99/yard, 45 inches wide, not actually in stock at the moment so far as I can tell
King size 600 thread count sheets on eBay: $33.99, free shipping
King size flat sheet measures 108x102 inches
108 inches = 3 yards
102 inches = 2.27 times the width of the Michaels quilting fabric
Michaels price for one yard of fabric by 102 inches of fabric: $18.11
Michaels price for three yards of fabric by 102 inches of fabric: $54.33
I'm buying a king size 600 thread count sheet set for mask making. The flat sheet alone beats the price of the same amount of fabric from Michaels, and has the advantage of being available, which is kind of a relevant thing. Quality and price don't mean much if you can't actually GET the stuff. And given that my parents have asked me to make them some masks, this seems pretty gosh-dang relevant. Considering that this is a sheet set, that's a lot of mask fabric for a price rather more reasonable than I would have expected.

Date: 2020-04-28 12:12 am (UTC)I also had the brainstorm this morning: the mask pattern I use has channels for elastic or shoelaces rather than using bias tape. Rather than shoelaces, I have some paracord laying around (as one does when one has crafty-collector's syndrome) and no one's made a run on paracord recently, so it's readily available online.
