Jan. 10th, 2020 10:04 amI have a standing policy of not buying any significant items for myself for two months before Christmas, just in case someone gets me something along the lines of whatever it is I'm looking at. I'll usually put whatever it is on a wishlist somewhere just in case.
The jacket I spotted in October or early November and put on my wishlist was not a gift this year. Knowing my parents, or more particularly knowing my mother, the fact that it was very visibly a men's design that only comes in men's sizes had something to do with that. (It's a bush jacket designed for pilots. If you imagined a Carhartt work jacket designed with World War II bomber jackets in mind you wouldn't be far wrong.)
The zipper on my current jacket, a Christmas gift from some years back, has been giving out for over a year and I haven't had the presence of mind to get the stupid thing to a tailor for fixing. Two days ago about half the zipper teeth refused to cooperate.
Time to pay a visit to the Sportys.com apparel and sunglasses shop. I'll take the black jacket for repairs once the new one arrives; my other winter outerwear choice is way too heavy and warm to wear on a day that would ordinarily call for a regular jacket.
Look, Mom, I love you, but I've been drawn to clothing very visibly designed for guys ever since first grade sneaker shopping (and I still think that if a kid wants black sneakers rather than 'girl' sneakers, it's probably best to go with that, because kid sneakers get super dirty). My outerwear choices aren't gonna change now.

I actually got mine last weekend, but size large turned out to be just a bit too bulky for me. (One of the customer comments/reviews was from a woman buying a jacket for her son, whose stats she gave as being around my height and slightly more than my weight; they recommended large for him.) I sent it back with a note asking to exchange for a medium. The medium should arrive later today. I had enough time to wear the jacket to know that it's incredibly warm, solidly constructed, and has some of the most comfortable pockets of any jacket I've owned.
