I am not anywhere near the explosions.
Sep. 14th, 2018 08:41 amHi, folks. Just wanted to let those of you who've seen yesterday's news know that Associated Press and Reuters were REALLY BAD at writing headlines. The gas line explosions in North Andover, Andover, and Lawrence are NOT 'Boston neighborhoods'- thanks so much, AP- and are only 'near' Boston by the standards of Midwestern or larger states.
I live on the north shore of Boston Harbor. The towns and city where the explosions happened are at least 25-30 miles away (by car- it's a little shorter in a straight line rather than by highway route). For my Canadian friends, it's around 44ish km. If I had been at flight school at the time, they would have been a concern- I'm taking my lessons at Lawrence Municipal Airport, and according to the map at the Boston Globe's web site, two of the easternmost fire/explosion/gas odor locations were within a street or two of the airport.
I'll be kicking some money to the Red Cross chapter responsible for residential fire relief for those towns, but me, I'm all right.
