Yeah, long story. Basically, Marvel has the movie rights to the Avengers, but Sony has the rights to the X-men and mutants in general. Since Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch show up in both comics and have been on both teams, the X-Men movies have Quicksilver's name as 'Peter Maximoff' and the Avengers have it as 'Pietro Maximoff'. Also the Avengers movies have him and Wanda as twin citizens of one of the various fictional countries that exist in Marvel and have them getting their powers through creepy-ass experimentation, with no mention of their parentage. The X-Men movies don't show Wanda, but Peter is shown in a household with his mother and a much younger sister and the mother mentions 'your sister' to the little girl; general assumption is that the unnamed sister is Wanda.
