Well, the VicMage.Asia PBEM proceeds apace...
We're in the Imperial capital city of Chang'an. There are certain advantages to working with an empire like China - the one that comes to mind at the moment is how the capital city's been in one place for the last five hundred years or so. It's moved around a lot in the past, but right now? Five hundred years of architectural continuity, at least on the Palace. Under ordinary circumstances this would mean constant updating, as in our world's China stone was never really the most popular building material, but this is the China of the Ten Thousand Islands. Wood isn't as readily available, and the primary reason for moving the capital has been because defense has been something of a problem. Five hundred years ago the First Under Heaven decided that he was sick and tired of running around and ordered that a PROPERLY defensible palace be built, and Chang'an's been home to emperors ever since.
I think I've made a decent impression on my players, two of whom have characters in the Audience Hall of the Palace of Auspicious Counsel (the Outer Palace) at the moment. #3 is on her way, she's going to be introduced to the game quite soon. (One of these days I'm going to have to scare up enough money to go over there and visit some of this stuff, the real stuff, in person. Have to make do with movies, books, museums, and imagination in the meantime.) She only seems able to post once a day, though, so I"m going to have to give her a couple of big-ass emails to bring her up to speed before dropping her on the other two - don't want to bog anyone down unnecessarily....
I'm enjoying this immensely as it stands. Can't wait to actually run this in realtime! But at the moment, the PBEM's a hoot. It's been a while since we had a fight scene, though.

Date: 2002-11-01 09:14 am (UTC)I'll mourn the coming of that day... it'll mean the PBEM phase is over and I shall go back to my time-zone challenged state... -sniff- :-)

Good! ;-) You know how much my character hates violence :-)

Date: 2002-11-01 11:39 am (UTC)Nonsense, lad. You and the rest of the merry gang are the beta testers. When the realtime game starts, we're going back to the start of the setting - welcome to Tibet (or wherever), eek, cannibals! - and going through the adventure that you have so obligingly blazed. There's a good chance you guys will be staying out in front for a long time - and if the realtime group winds up going in an entirely different direction, even better.

... you know, I do wish trucks from the Logistics Management Bureau wouldn't roll past my window every bloody time I start feeling like evilly messing with people's heads...
