Have been watching Interstellar the past two nights.

What the hell is wrong with this movie.

Apparently humans make absolutely no progress or technological changes of any kind after a massive population loss due to agro-crops being hit by a dustbowl-inducing blight, but still manage to keep 1990s-2000s model automobiles working. Animals appear to have died off, all of them, because there's no dogs, no cats, no sound of insects in any scene except one that involved driving through a cornfield, no birds. The only agro-crops worth mentioning anywhere, ever, are wheat, okra, and corn. Science is apparently done by one or two heroic people working in intellectual isolation with massive support staffs and no sharing of knowledge or collaboration with outside thinkers anywhere. People of color don't exist at all, even within NASA, except for one black guy- there are no Asians, no Hispanics, no anything browner than a very tan Matthew McConaughey. (In fairness, there is evidence that Asia still has people in it. An Indian army drone appears in the first fifteen minutes of the movie, at which point it is promptly hacked by McConaughey and gutted for parts, because fuck the Indian army.) An attempt to establish an offworld human colony using frozen embryos relies entirely on the existence of one woman, as there's no sign of artificial wombs or other gestational technology, and on the assumption that the first generation of women will happily serve as surrogates, and on the further assumption that nobody dies in childbirth because there are no medical doctors on the mission. The proposed offworld colony does not appear to have brought anything other than human embryos, either- Lord knows I haven't heard anyone mention "oh, and that container over there has a Starbucks venti cup worth of Holstein sperm in it". Hell, it doesn't even seem to have included SEEDS. They literally do not seem to have thought that it was worth it to pack a cup of corn kernels along with the human embryos just in case the plant life was inedible wherever they were going. Who planned this Plan B colony? Donald "Courtship Rite" Kingsbury?

... that's not fair to Mr. Kingsbury, the people in Courtship Rite didn't know they were hitting a planet where the animal proteins were incompatible with human biology, not to mention THEY brought actual viable agricultural plants with them.

There is also the part where one of the astronauts is the big-eyed excessively pretty daughter of the Great Man Scientist, and while she is supposed to be a scientist herself, she- and everyone else- completely forgets about the implications of a planet orbiting a black hole, gets one of the other NASA people killed, and then seriously advocates choosing one colonial target over another based on love. Because love is the only thing humans can feel that transcends dimensions. Or something.

Everything what's wrong with this movie: it's all of them. And I still have an hour to go.

I couldn't get through it. I hit a frustration point where I was yelling "Oh, just die out already!" and decided my time was better served playing games on my phone.

I think INTERSTELLAR was the one where the trailer was "Gay Astronaut Dads in Space!"

... needless to say, I didn't go see it when I found out how boring and conventional the plot actually was.
