Oct. 23rd, 2015 08:38 amFinally got around to seeing Age of Ultron last night. I'd wanted to like that movie, I really did, and I'd been trying not to let people's comments about its various flaws and issues influence me, but Lord, that movie was a mess. Bad writing, bad plot, bad motivation, too many things dropped on us without explanation, sequences I could not see as anything other than 'we have a 3D budget and BY GOD we are going to use it', shoehorning in of characters galore to the point where none of them could get any good development or explanation, ignoring stuff that'd happened in prior, better movies... I'm really glad I didn't make it through to the end of the 24-hour marathon when it debuted, because then I'd have been trying to make sense of it while sleep-deprived and confused.
I have seen worse, but wow, this was not good.

As a whole, it makes a lot more sense when thought of as a movie from the Avengers universe, with the characters as public figures who've been moved to this movie's exaggerated levels.
