This Halloween

I normally don't put much effort into Halloween. I've been in the Greenwich Village parade once or twice, with Empire Skate Club; I wore my chef's uniform from Foods Prep I class and my rollerblades and somehow fit my hat over my helmet. When I do bother to put together a real costume I tend to be of the school that says 'you may find yourself in the situation of that one Buffy episode you never saw all the way through, so make sure you wear something you wouldn't mind getting turned into should supernatural events happen'. This has yielded at least one Green Lantern (Silver Age, thank you) and two uses of my Renaissance Faire outfit.

This year 31 October falls on a Thursday. I have karate lessons on Thursday nights. I think I'm just going to wear the uniform and scream incomprehensibly as I give out candy. Maybe memorize a few lines from a Gojira movie or something. I don't have a black belt, so I'm sure any kids who spot me will turn out to be the ones who've taken karate classes and will laugh because they're blue or green or brown or something, but that's okay.

Which reminds me, I gotta buy good candy quick. Mom's got a big bag of nothing but raisins and lollipops. The kids will loathe us if that's all they get.

Raisins are definitely on the bad end of the marvelous candy spectrum, fighting for the position with circus peanuts, rock-hard bubblegum and candy corn. (Okay, so I went out of the halloween candy range by mentioning circus peanuts, but I wanted to include them.)
