Slight snag in the process of getting an FAA medical certificate to fly: they really don't like kidney stones in a person's medical record. Or rather, they don't like the chance of them happening again, since according to the kindly older gentleman who performed the exam for me, "the worst physical pain a human being can undergo can cause problems if you're trying to land". I have to get a urologist to issue a letter about the stones I've had in the past (I didn't keep the doctors' documentation, alas) and then do a CT scan or an ultrasound to determine whether I'm carrying any at the moment and whether or not they're likely to start moving if they do happen to exist. In the meantime I'm not booking any more flight time until I get the FAA's medical okay.

Hm, I guess that could be a consideration. Oddly, that never crossed my mind, previously.

Yeah, it hadn't exactly occurred to me either, but it makes sense. It's not like stones exactly come with an aura or something so you know they're on their way. I've had one wake me out of a sound sleep and another that I didn't realize wasn't menstrual cramps at first. Having something like that surprise you when you're at the helm... not as bad as a seizure out of nowhere, but still.
