I was going to say what Leeshajoy did - staining/polishing the insides of drawers is not a bad idea, just not usually done because people are lazy and unforesightful. One of Eor's projects right now is painting the insides of all the drawers in our new kitchen so they'll be cleanable. I washed them with bleach, but when mice have been in and around it just never seems like enough, especially with a rough surface.
Ah. My mom and dad both indicated that finishing the insides of drawers wasn't usually done, so I assumed that was some kind of a traditional thing and avoided doing anything to the insides of my dresser drawers. Maybe I'll go back and change that at some point after I get done with the current set of furniture.
