I've been quiet lately, I know.

There's been a lot going on at work these past few weeks- the company was sold this summer and the closing happened in late October. We've had users to rearrange and systems to set up and an annual building power-down and power-up to prepare for. Separately, there's been a VOIP implementation that had to be prepared for. There've been contracts to get together- a lot of things. After hours I've been doing volunteering with the Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts two nights a week, so there's been that too. Combine work stress with end-of-year stress and with making the mistake of reading Tumblr too often and thereby being bombarded with SOCIETY SUCKS AND THE PLANET SUCKS AND YOU AREN'T BEING OUTRAGED ENOUGH ABOUT EVERYTHING when honestly I just wanted to follow a couple of joke and picture blogs... it hasn't been great for my mental state, and that hasn't been great for me posting here.

I'm probably not going to go to Tumblr much from now on. Pictures of kittens and mineral samples and the glory of science and engineering aren't worth the hell of every single flaw in society being repeated at me twenty times an hour.

Anyway, those are the negative reasons I haven't posted much here- well, the LVM stuff isn't negative, but the rest of it's just been energy drain material. The other not-so-negative reason, which in all honesty only applies to the last ten days or so, is that I acquired Assassin's Creed IV. After a long day of dealing with work stuff and everything else, I've been coming home, feeding and playing with the cats, and settling in for an evening of piracy. Which has been pretty glorious fun, really. (Side note: when I was discussing the game with a coworker today he commented that I had an awful lot of knowledge of pirates. It hadn't occurred to me that people in his or my demographic groups might not necessarily be able to name famous RL pirates other than Blackbeard.)

I'll do my best to resume posting here more often and to get more Notes From New Vegas up. Just wanted to keep folks in the loop.

Amen. I know it's also soothing just to check the actual Tumblr pages of kittens and science; that is a strategy I use when Tumblr Savior just ain't enough.

I am very haphazard on Tumblr myself; it's easily the least active of my social media connections, and that includes Facebook, which I actually loathe. For me, it's a matter of volume vs. limited bandwidth - and I include mental bandwidth in that.

I am very fond of Tumblr Savior, though.

My Tumblr Savior list is something like three screens long at this point. Mostly because a lot of the people I follow all follow each other, so I get the same stuff in the face three or four times and have to block it before it drives me nuts.

I'm still resisting joining Tumblr, though I do check like 3 or 4 folks there. :) Even then I don't always avoid problematic things, but it's usually on a lower scale. (The most infuriating thing I ran into recently was someone's problematic idea for a Hawaiian Disney Princess--they essentially demoted a queen, and demoted AND slandered a volcano goddess in their concept write-up.)
