Very little turns my stomach into a bundle of knots quite like having to shut down server room systems at work, particularly the systems that don't actually have off switches. "Connect to the management interface, shut off both storage controllers, and then pull the plug"; "Turn off all server blades, and don't worry, the storage blades will go into standby mode- THEN pull the plugs for the enclosure, all of them"; etc. I spent most of last night worrying that the storage systems wouldn't come back up or would come back corrupt.
Fortunately they didn't. All is well, so far as I can tell, so I'm going for poutine and then I'm gonna go to the Aquarium and watch the cuttlefish.
It's a good day.
