Oh, side note-
Jul. 1st, 2013 09:17 amI've been seeing flying insects in the Winthrop area the past few days. Cabbage butterflies and houseflies/greenbottle flies, mostly. Haven't really had mosquito issues, which was weird but not something to which I will object. A couple of dragonflies, which I assumed were part of the reason why the mosquitoes were not so many in number. At least one tiger swallowtail- although I can't confirm that as I spotted it going past my bedroom window and didn't get a close look, but there aren't that many yellow butterflies that do that altitude anyway. At least one inch-long brown moth, which was trying to get out of the window in the stairwell this morning. Etc.
I'm not completely reassured about the local insect population, esp. since I'm seeing so few pollinators, but at least I'm seeing some insects other than ants now.
