A while ago I backed a kickstarter to put a memorial to H. P. Lovecraft in the Providence, RI public library. It succeeded, and not only is there going to be a memorial bust put up but there's going to be a nice chunk of cash donated to children's literacy programs in the area as well. If anyone in the area is interested in paying a visit, the unveiling date is set for August 22nd; I'm hoping to go if I can get the time to get there.
Yes, I know the man was an ass of Cyclopean proportions when it came to his racial attitudes, and that I can name all of his female characters ever without running out of fingers to count them on, but American horror literature owes him an awful, awful lot, and I wanted to be part of acknowledging that.
