Haven't seen Star Trek: Into Darkness. Don't want to. 85% because of the main villain casting decision, 15% because of JJ Abrams' interview in which he said he didn't like Star Trek as a kid because it was too philosophical. Mr. Abrams, if your head is six feet above sea level, then the point is somewhere in the vicinity of where Felix Baumgartner got out of his craft last year.

Saw Iron Man 3, though. Allow me to say: oh, well done, sirs.

That's about all for now, except to note that Primo Popcorn's Dah Haawaiian product is a truly lovely thing if you are a fan of spicy material.

Have to agree with you on Star Trek. I might be able to forgive the Khan casting but not on completely missing the core purpose of Star Trek.

I also hate how often Abrams lies to try and hide spoilers. I remember him swearing Cumberbatch was not Khan.

I have a fairly long list of reasons for skipping nuTrek2. The miscasting is a very thick frosting, but it's only the icing on a large personal fail cake, with reasons ranging from "Chris Pine is a lousy Kirk" to "Star Trek is not about war and terrorism" to "I already saw Wrath of Khan." I like JJ as a director - making me care about Sam Kirk in six minutes still surprises me. But he has no business making Trek, and really needs to be called to the rug about Cumberbatch.

Not that a single MSM story has asked about this.

MSM = Mainstream media.

The only time I ever saw racefail casting covered by the mainstream media was The Least Airbender. Otherwise, nope.

We saw it last night and found it mildly entertaining but forgettable, except for Cumberbatch's performance which is, admittedly, a rather well done version of Generic Menacing British Villian #1.

Someone on my f-list says that their new headcanon is that Cumberbatch's character is not actually Khan, but one of the other genetically engineered soldiers who gave his name as Khan in a handwavey attempt to protect his "family."

This is my headcanon, too! (Not that I've seen it, but I might, later, when I can rent it and no money goes to Abrams). John Harrison takes the name of Khan to protect/honour memory of his leader and his family. And thus also explains the personality changes from the original.

*applauds* Hear, hear!

I'm mostly commenting to check in with you. Haven't seen you on AIM in quite a bit now, and I've been thinking about you. I hope you're all right!

(Also, you should have received something by e-mail last week. Let me know if it got to you?)

Oh, good! It's the awesome kind of disappearance, then. I hope you and your houseguest are enjoying the company. :)

I almost waited to double-check with you that I had the right e-mail, but didn't want to ruin the surprise. So I'm glad it went through! I was going to write you a Grace-Shep fic as well, but discovered pretty fast that my Shep voice is awful. I spared you the horror, really. ^^;

Iron Man 3 was nice. :D I read some viewers had problems with what they interpreted as "criminalization" of a certain group of people, but I thought it was more of a victimization, all things considered.

Exactly. They were targeted and taken advantage of and manipulated. I'm pretty sure Tony was aware of that after he viewed certain things, but he couldn't let that stop him, and I bet he hated it. It was a sucky situation.
