Apparently it's fifteen minutes on foot and by T, or 25-30 minutes on foot alone, from here to a place where it is entirely possible to acquire antelope or venison or any number of other meats for sale.

I need to find where I put my copy of Unmentionable Cuisine, I think.

Unmentionable Cuisine sounds like a book that would teach you how to cook Lovecraftian horrors.

I wish, but no. It's a book by an anthropologist at the University of Virginia about food taboos, mostly of animal origin (I don't remember there being any chapters on rules against eating plants but I could be mixing it up with the even more freakishly titled Eat Not This Flesh by Frederick Simmons). The first part of each chapter is a writeup of research, and the second part is recipes from various parts of the world where that meat is not particularly taboo or from parts of history where it was considered normal to eat. It starts off with parts of the cow that Americans are less likely to eat than others, but several chapters in you realize you're reading recipes for dog meat and guinea pig with bell peppers and peanuts and toasted locust on sticks and things like that.
