Characters/Pairings: The President of the United States... that's pretty much it, really.
Notes: I needed to start the 'Rise of the Fallen' 2007 Bayverse Transformers AU somewhere. This seemed like a good way to do it.

“Good evening.
“Today, in Mission City, Nevada, citizens of the United States of America came under attack on American soil.
“The victims of the Mission City attacks were ordinary Americans going about their daily lives. Men and women, children and elderly, business people, tourists, and people from every walk of life. They were our fellow citizens, our brothers and sisters, and their lives were brutally cut short by a series of attacks like none the United States has ever faced before.
“The Mission City attacks were carried out, not by terrorists or agents of enemies of the United States, but by the armed forces of a power neither foreign nor domestic pursuing an agenda entirely of its own. This power has struck at the people of our country overseas, but never done so openly- until now.
“Our nation’s armed forces responded to the Mission City attacks immediately, rising to the defense of their fellow Americans as they have done throughout our history. They fought valiantly and well. They faced an unprecedented enemy, and in so doing ensured the safety and escape of thousands of American civilians who found themselves abruptly thrust into harm’s way.
“But they were not the only ones who risked their lives to protect our people.
“The enemy power that our armed forces faced in Mission City has no love for freedom, or peace, or prosperity. It has no respect for the rights of the individual. It is a brutal, inhuman foe that sees any nation or race that stands in its way as subjects at best, and slaves at worst. It is the opposite of everything that America stands for.
“And it is no power of this world.
“I stand before you today with a message no President in history has ever had to give: we are not alone in the Universe. The forces that attacked Mission City today were not from this planet. The attacks were carried out by self-aware war machines, built by an alien civilization originating among the stars. Moreover, our soldiers were aided in their battle against these war machines by other representatives of this civilization, also self-aware machines, who sought to protect the lives and liberty of those around them.
“The enemy forces have been driven back. Only one of the alien attackers escaped alive. The ones who sought to protect humanity remained. They’ve been assisting our people in Mission City, working side by side with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the American Red Cross, and other emergency response organizations. They’ve given us valuable information about the common enemy we faced today, and almost certainly will continue to face in the days ahead. And one of them is here, with us, now.
“My fellow Americans- my fellow human beings- it is my honor as President of the United States and resident of the planet Earth to introduce the head of the Cybertronian government-in-exile, Optimus Prime. . .”
