I think I may have to be especially cruel to the next person who talks about "Roboing" (i.e., using Robotussin as a recreational chemical) and sugget that if they really want to be hard core, they should do Buckley's.

But I've been accused of exercising my inner bastard on occasion.

The Wiki entry for Buckley's indicates that Buckley's tastes so foul that it's hardly ever used for recreational purposes. I can believe that. It's like trying to get drunk on Angostura bitters; they taste so foul that even stores without a liquor license can sell them, because nobody's gonna drink enough for it to be an issue.

That being said, we give it to each other with the glee of the others in the house watching the sad sick person take it.

My brain's first reaction when this post appeared on my flist was "It'll put hair on your chest. How d'you think Canada and Sister Canada got so hirsute?"

I let my boss have some of mine once whrn he was sick at work. Warned him that it tasted bad.

Mmmmmm, Buckley's. I used to take that stuff, and I hated and feared it because it would TERRIFY MY BODY INTO SUBMISSION. Then I stopped being able to find it around here, and I was sad, for now I must take wimpy syrups that do not understand how to crush your enemies and revel in the lamentations of their women.

Roughly, yes. I swear, every time I get sick enough to need it I think 'it can't possibly be as bad as I remember' and then OH GOD IT'S WORSE.

I went to three different Duane Reade stores and while they had shelf space and price stickers for it, they didn't have any on the shelf. Wound up buying a bottle from a local small pharmacy that had the chest congestion formulation in stock.

Somewhat unnervingly, I can tell the difference between the congestion formula and the cough suppressant formula by taste. The congestion formula doesn't burn everything in its path with quite as much merciless mercilessness.
