I may be a little slow or irregular in contacting people or answering stuff over the next few days. My grandfather, who was eighty-three, finally passed away last night after several weeks of illness and decline. Dad and his siblings will be arranging the wake and funeral, but I haven't got dates or times yet.

RIP, Grandpa. I'm gonna miss you.

My last remaining grandparent died a few years ago (the only one to die when I was an adult and thus more or less able to really 'get it'), and...it's a huge loss. Even when you see it coming, it still seems...shocking somehow?

Yeah... it hasn't properly hit me yet, I don't think. Watch, it'll be something like running across a crappy 'country style' rooster decoration in a store that'll set me off. (Grandpa had a thing for roosters. Used to drive Grandma up the wall.) But thank you.

BTW, you may want to make sure you've got decently weatherproof windows in your new place. I just got an email saying the cancer fundraising ride on Sunday may have to be rescheduled because of Hurricane Irene. I doubt the storm will aim for New York, but the outer edges can still be nasty wind and rain, esp. if the windows don't seal right.
