Aug. 26th, 2010 10:11 amMy apologies if I don't have much of interest to say today. I made the mistake of eating some of my chocolate chocolate chip sourdough cookies last night after 9 PM and the caffeine settled in nicely. I'm pretty sure I fell asleep sometime after 2:30 AM.
I'm also pretty sure that I woke up around 4:30 or so with a cat on me, or at least curled up next to me, and spent a good long while smiling in the dark. Not because it was a cat in general- although that was part of it- but because I could just about make out black blotches on its head and pale fur everywhere else, and that meant that either I was still asleep and having a very prosaic dream, or else Kamella had decided she felt safe enough to come into my room and hop up on the bed with me for a while.

Date: 2010-08-27 11:48 am (UTC)1/4 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter, softened (alternatively: 1/2 cup butter, 1/2 cup vegetable shortening)
3/4 cup granulated white sugar
1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup sourdough starter
2 large eggs
1 pkg chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large bowl combine flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt; set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter, shortening, and sugars until light and fluffy. Add eggs, beating until well blended. Add vanilla and sourdough starter; mixing well. Stir in flour mixture until just mixed. Fold in chocolate chips. You may need to add some more flour if the mixture is too wet, but don't go overboard or you'll get dry, crumbly cookies.
Drop by tablespoonfuls 2-inches apart onto baking sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Turn baking sheet around after 6 minutes to ensure even browning. Transfer cookies to wire rack to cool completely. Store in tightly covered container at room temperature.
