May. 3rd, 2009 05:18 pmHome now. Showered, used relaxation scent puck, used the hottest water I could stand. Something about riding 46+ miles total in constantly raining cold and windy temperatures makes one start thinking of hypothermia, so I am not taking chances. Might see about soup later, although I don't have broth on hand- there's Chinese places around. barring that, hot decaf (no sense using a diuretic like caffeine, and I have no kettle) and a good warm supper.
I'm kinda thinkin' that if I get to the Ride to Montauk or the North Fork Century (haven't decided on the NFC yet or not), and it's raining the day of the ride, I might just skip out. yes, I'd forfeit the entry fee, but frankly? I've done a hundred miles on the bike several times. I've hurt myself on the bike riding long distances- pressure on my left hand makes certain nerves angry, and last year I spent several weeks after the Ride to Montauk having trouble with two fingers on my left hand. Riding in the rain and the cold and the wind is not my idea of fun, and while I like to be able to claim the triumph of having beaten a course, I don't think the triumph outweighs cold/wet/wind.
So now I'm dry and layered in blanket, towel, and cat, and relaxing. because I can.
