Went to Home Depot yesterday in search of basil seeds. My hydroponic herb garden thing just arrived from Thinkgeek, and if you think for one moment I plan on using it to grow anything for smoking, then you really don't know me at all*. It's just a typical Thinkgeek product- visually appealing and more complicated than it really has to be... anyway, I bought a pack of Genovese basil seeds and a cotton laundry bag, because I could use something other than trash bags to take stuff to the laundromat.

However, one almost never goes into Home Depot without coming out having purchased something other than the intended product. Which is why the rack over my stove at home now has a rather nice yellow and black Stanley Tools 24-inch crowbar.

... just in case.




*Sorry, I've had one too many people at work make smirking comments about the damned thing. If there were a way to grow plants that oozed caffeinated sap in it, I might consider using it for that, but that's as close as I get to Naughty Substances.

I am a terrible Abruzzese, as I have a greater fondness for pesto than I ever did for the sorts of sauces one gets in Abruzzi. Or my grandmother's family's ancestral home of Bari, for that matter, which does more of the fish stuff- either way, I tend to prefer pesto, and pesto requires basil, so...

I remember when my friends and I went on an expedition to get one of those and caution tape for their LAN Party on the last day of school freshman year. That one was from Home Depot too.

Makes me realize how much I miss going to the hardware store--haven't been there in a while.

I'm putting this in the same category as my burning high school desire to be MacGyver. I actually bought a roll of duct tape and put it in my purse to carry around with me just in case, and asked my parents for a Swiss Army knife for Christmas.

*laughs* I haven't had the desire to be MacGyver so much as it's just happened to me. Generally, if I need something, I'll find something to make it work, as long as it doesn't involve electricity at all. (That's where ordinary objects just laying around start to not help.)

I need to buy a Swiss Army knife, though.
