You know, you ride your bike 108 miles in one day, you expect to be feeling some of that a few days later. Soreness in the thighs, maybe. Pain in the sunburn, possibly. Itching in the sunburn, yeah. Aching balls of the feet since that's the only part you put on the pedal. Stiff lower back from spending 108 miles leaning forward. Various pains in the tuchus. Whatever.

And yet, despite being as splotched as a pinto horse and having to deal with living in a fourth floor walkup with no elevator... the only pain I have left from the Ride to Montauk is pins-and-needles tingling and ouchy feeling in the ring and pinky fingers of my left hand, from the nerve I pinched somewhere around mile 18 or so. At the time I thought I'd just closed off the blood supply a la sitting cross-legged too long, so I spent the rest of that segment until the rest stop using just my right hand, but no...

I've had this happen before. It faded after three days last time, but last time it was caused by not moving my hand position enough during a 55-mile ride. I made a point of changing hand positions a lot during this ride and using my left hand as little as possible. If this doesn't let up by tomorrow I'm calling the doctor. IN the meantime I'm trying to rest that hand as much as possible, and taking ibuprofen for its anti-inflammatory properties.
