Mar. 23rd, 2008 08:17 pmAlso? I bought my three year old nephew a bike helmet. The one his parents got him at Christmas perched on top of his head like a hopeful but confused headcrab, so after I measured his head circumference last week and found it to be in the range normally labeled "14 years old and up", I went to a bike store to get him one. They said child heads have weird shapes sometimes, so get him fitted in person. Yesterday I took him to Dick's Sporting Goods near my parents. I had to talk him out of the helmets with Lightning McQueen on them, as they were all too small. We eventually found a blue and white Bell that fit him okay and met safety standards (which, really, is all that matters in a helmet; so long as they have the safety OK, you can spend as much or as little as you like). When he said it felt okay, I tightened it up in the back, picked him up, held him upside down by the middle, and shook him up and down a few times. It didn't fall off, so I straightened him up and asked a store employee if it was a properly angled fit and he said yes.
So, helmet.
So, helmet.

Date: 2008-03-24 12:53 am (UTC)I got him across the parking lot into the store, and then back out to the car when we'd bought the helmet, by putting him on my shoulders and telling him to hold onto my head. I figured it would be easier than holding his hand and keeping him at my side in a busy parking lot.
