I wish. No, somebody's been to an Asian grocer or something and came back with a packet of squid parts labeled entirely in Japanese- there's not even a UPC sticker with 'SQUID BITS, RED' on it anywhere. They're real squid bits, too. Someone opened the package, so I looked inside.

I have so got to go down to Chinatown and play What The Hell Is This again.

EDIT: the Packet o' Tentacles is actually a souvenir that our VP brought back from Japan.

It's a PACKAGE OF TENTACLES. That's the only part of the squid that's in there. Preserved tentacles.

I had been hoping it was some kind of gummi simulacrum, but no. Packet o' tentacles.

This is up there with the place I worked at for a while where the microwave tended to make crop circles appear in the instant oatmeal.

It was worst with the varieties that had apple chunks in them. The boiling of the water in the oatmeal tended to make those stand on end. If you were very lucky you ended up with a bowl of oatmeal with two concentrically circular trenches (the crop circles) separated by what looked like My First Stonehenge made of apples.

Wouldn't know. As much as I admire squid and octopi, I generally don't eat them unless the sushi chef drops a piece directly in front of me and I have to save face.

Yeah, no, I don't. When I don't like a food, it's more likely to be because of the texture than the color, taste, temperature or smell. The texture of cephalopod flesh is just all wrong for my liking.

I still love your brain and your eyes that see through the Veil, because it really is a jungle out there -- it's just that the jungle was paved over and people stopped noticing the panthers in the midst.

Lovecraft said once that he thought the most merciful thing in the world was the inability of the human mind to correlate its contents. I think my thing is that somewhere along the way, some little piece of that mercy- not all of it, not by a long shot, but some little piece of it- broke down, fell out, and was lost.

I have the same data set available to me that everybody else does. I just happen to be the one who notices the cross-linkage, I think.

I beg to differ. One week at my house and you'd beg to downshift to squid packages. That sort of squid-y offering is a regular occurence in my house, and we don't even ENJOY Oriental squid-y cuisine.
