Not by choice. Just because I knew enough about the questions being asked to ping as a Texan on the exam doesn't mean a damn thing. I've been to Texas for all of three weeks, and I didn't enjoy it very much. (No offense to the state, but it was July, and it was hot, and I was on Red Cross duty, and I'm not what you'd call fond of Tex-Mex or other Southwestern foods. Etc.)

Hey, the Finns drafted me, too.

As I understand it, I'd have got to cross-country ski a lot, which is really good for your heart, provided it doesn't get stopped by a Russian bullet, or a German one once you've survived all the Russian ones.

While one might admire Finnish pluckiness and resourcefulness, I imagine it's hard to write too glowingly of this particular chapter in that the Finns seemed to side with whoever on their borders happened to have the upper hand. Smart. But not especially stirring.

Brave drinkers too, IIRC. Are they still in the midst of their Tango fad that I read about some years back?
