1. He's a fraternal twin, the other one being his sister. She's dead, of course. There were six kids in the family, but Denton only had one brother, Ken- the first born in the family.
2. When Denton was about seven years old his father gave him a dog- a bluetick coonhound pup. He named the dog Marco and it was his loyal friend and companion for the next nine or ten years. In fact, the dog outlived all his siblings. He was shattered when Marco finally died, though if anyone else noticed they kept their mouths the hell shut.
3. Denton was born in January of 1987 and was actually a much more pleasant individual when he was younger. It's entirely likely that he would have gone into politics and had quite a successful career in it if the dragons hadn't come; he had the personality for it, and the drive. Probably he woud have aimed for a gubernatorial career- and it's extremely likely that he would've pulled it off
4. The U.S. Army dropped their recruitment age to sixteen when the dragons started swarming into the States in earnest. Denton signed up the instant the law allowed him. It seemed like the best chance he'd ever get at destroying the things; his brother had been away at college, and died first of anyone in the Van Zant family. The others followed swiftly behind, but Denton pretty much just got harder and harder as they fell.
5. Denton sired a couple of bastard children along the way- early in his career- but they're all dead now. He's never really known any of them, just that they existed; he's seen a few of them once or twice. The deaths had more impact on him, really. He doesn't talk about them and has avoided mentioning them to Alex, but they were part of why he suggested building some kind of memorial wall to their dead.
6. There's a reason he carries water in that flask of his and it's not because he needs to stay hydrated. He's a singing drunk- and a loud, enthusiastic one at that. Oddly enough he's really very good at singing when he's drunk, which is not something he likes to admit.
7. He has never made any plans for 'after'. He's pretty firmly engrained it in his psyche that he's going to kill the male, and then take out every dragon he can manage that remains, and that he's going to die in the course of this. 'After' is for other people, or the rest of the world. He doesn't believe in after. Not for him.

Quick question
Date: 2006-06-17 06:16 pm (UTC)Quick question for you. Can you name an out of the way, non-famous, private college or residential high school in New York City? It's a question for a RPG I'm running. Only thing is it has to be in one of the 5 boroughs.
Thanks!
Brian
