I hate you.

I hate your coughing reflex.

I hate the way the nose drains down the back of you.

I especially hate the way you and the nose together made it impossible last night for me to get more than five hours' sleep- if that. I may have been conscious from about 3:30 onwards to 7 or so this morning in one way or another. I don't know. I wasn't checking the clock.

At least you are starting to give me back the ability to talk, but that doesn't make me hate you any less.

When the order arrives from FreshDirect, I'm putting everything away, then going back up to my sleeping area and taking some NyQuil, and then you will not be able to cough me miserably awake any more. How d'you like THEM apples?

Oooh, good point. Hadn't thought of that. Fortunately, FreshDirect just arrived, and they delivered about $80 worth of groceries that I bought online yesterday, so food will not be a problem.

'course I got in four extra hours of just-about-sleep between that post and now, so I'm not feeling so insistent upon NyQuil. Still.

Second-declension Latin nouns take -i as their plural ending (not -ii, which is a very common misspelling stemming from the fact that some nouns end in -ius, yielding -ii in the plural). However, they look a lot like fourth-declension nouns, which take -ūs instead, and only a Latin dictionary can tell you which is which. "Sinus" is fourth-declension, along with "Jesus" and, as far as anyone can tell, "virus" (plurals "Jesūs" and "virūs", respectively). "Nucleus" and "radius", on the other hand, are second-declension and pluralize as "nuclei" and "radii". "Octopus" isn't actually Latin at all, but belongs to a Greek declension similar to Latin's third, and so becomes "octopodes" in the plural (though "octopuses" will do just fine).

And there we have it. More than anyone but the geekiest of Latin students would ever want to know about the plural forms of words ending in -us.

That'd be because I'm a great big dork with a thing for languages. And it's not like most people end up needing to know much about Latin declensions anyway.
