Aug. 25th, 2005 02:09 pmA drabble, working off something Milliways!Ray's been considering doing for some time now...
"Something smells good," said Winston, poking his head into the kitchen. "Didn't know it was your turn to cook, Ray."
"Oh, it's not," said the engineer cheerfully. "I just wound up getting more meat than I thought, and it wouldn't all fit in the freezer."
"They have a sale on rump roast or something?"
"Nah," said Ray, lifting a pot lid to stir the gravy. "It's venison."
"Venison? Where'd you get-"
A hand fell on Winston's shoulder. "Don't ask, my friend," said Peter. "Just don't ask."
He'd seen the Utahraptor's three-toed footprint on the garage floor next to Ecto.
Background: the title character of palaeontologist Robert Bakker's novel Raptor Red has been coming into Milliways for some time now. Ray, being not entirely without survival instincts, backed away from it slowly and got it a lot of raw meat when it first looked his way. She likes him now, and has been letting him look after one of her chicks on a fairly regular basis. He's trying to train the chick to drop things on command, ostensibly so that he can stop her from biting Bar patrons- but on some level I think he wants to see her in full hunt mode at some point when she's grown up.
