Apr. 21st, 2005 08:48 amGot home from work yesterday and immediately went about looking for a legal place to park my car*. On my way to where I'd left it- around the block from my home- I spotted a vanity license plate and had to stop and think about it. Once I figured out what it was saying, I had to laugh; I got the very, very strong impression that anyone who would put something like that on a license plate probably attended my alma mater.
The plate read:
PANDNH4
*For those of you who don't live in cities that practice alternate-side-of-the-street parking, it is the custom in New York City and Jersey City (at least) to sweep the street clean several times in a given week. In Jersey City, one side gets done on Mondays and Thursdays, and the other gets done Tuesdays and Fridays. If you leave your car on the side of the street that's going to be swept that day, you get fined about forty dollars. Fortunately it is permissible to move your car back to that side of the street once the sweepers have been through, because there is not enough parking for everyone in the city to stay on the unswept side all day long.
