Page 11 of today's New York Daily News features an article by John Marzulli with the headline, "Co-op doesn't dig idea of 1905 time capsule". It's about the hundredth anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone of the original NYC Police Headquarters at 240 Centre Street. There's a group of police historians who believe there's a time capsule buried under the cornerstone on the southwest corner, and who say that the city leaders of the time wanted the capsule opened in a hundred years. The building is now a residential co-op and the architects and other people affiliated with the place say 'we checked during 1988's renovation, there didn't seem to be anything behind the cornerstone, we'd really rather you not crack our actual building open and disrupt everything, c'mon guys be nice, will you?'.
All I could think, looking at the article, was: "The walls in the Fifty-Third Precinct were bleeding. How do you explain that?"
There is a GB plot bunny in the Police Building somewhere. I just know it. Hell, it might even be a purebred instead of a mulebunny.
ETA: NO. NO. Damndamndamn, NO, this is not going to be a mulebunny! I am not going to use this as a reason to cross things over with The Alienist!
(Even if the climactic scene of The Alienist took place atop the reservoir that used to stand where the Fifth Avenue library, with the lions and the ghost and the "Alice, are you menstruating right now", currently stands. NO. NO. BAD BRAIN NO BIKKIT. Don't make me go to the video store.)
