... apparently I reached the office this morning without noticing that I put my sweater on inside out.

Fortunately no one else noticed either except for the woman whose computer spontaneously powered down, and I was able to fix it quickly, but yeesh.

(Side note: I don't think I saw any of the Fair Folk or the creatures of the underworld along the way, except for the usual denizens of the subway. Poo.)

Well, on the PATH and the NYC Subway and on the streets, whether anyone actually sees anyone or just responds to 'object in my path, move around it' in the morning is kind of an odd question to start with.

Given that I consider New York to be a zone in which the Arcane background from Mage is automatically one higher for absolutely everybody, because Nobody Wants To Notice, yeah. I did get noticed once, cos I was looking at a vacated seat and a guy gestured to me to take it, but after I handed it off to another person that was it.

Not much. The subway is a great place to practice Susan Sto Helit-type invisibility. Nobody much wants to see you on the subway, because no one especially wants to be noticed.

New York is simultaneously a place to practice invisibility and a place where you can get an audience for anything from opera to live nude dog wrestling. (And the answer to the inevitable question is, "Either party, or possibly both.") It's invisibility by Not Being Noticeable, because making yourself noticeable attracts the attention of the city's Bored. Eight million people crammed into one teeny place- that's a lot of boredom, and a lot of people whose only chance for privacy is in the three pounds behind their eyes. Make yourself look and act like everyone else, and nobody's going to put themselves out to really find or even remember you. Make yourself stand out a little, and they'll notice, but they'll leave you alone because they can't be arsed. Make yourself stand out a lot and the Bored come...
