hee. and a happy commonwealth day to you too. I would toast you with the ceremonial pint glass as seems only appropriate for the commonwealth ... except it's 9:58 AM where I am, and that's a wee bit early even for most brits I know. :)

*wanders off for a celebratory muffin instead*

*wonders if she should have known this*

Um, maybe in Britain every day is Commonwealth Day?

heh. well, half the time I have diet coke in my pint glass, depending on my mood ;) but yah. understood.

doughnuts are much better anyways. Chocolate trumps alcohol every time in my estimation.

Nope. Britain celebrates commonwealth day in a way - special service at westminster, queen in attendance type thing.

http://www.commonwealthday.co.uk/ or http://www.commonwealthday.com/ are the two big ones.

(yes, I googled the sites. Knew about the westminster thing before though can't recall why I knew that one)

Well it's not on my calendar. All I've got is Guiness day on Thursday.

Wow, don't I feel stupid?

I don't remember ever celebrating the fact that we used to have an Empire, but now all we've got are these lousy Fawklands (strategic sheep purposes).

Tonight I shall have curry and put maple syrup on something while singing the Kenya Song.

... or something.

I don't want to confuse it with Wales, though.

I can't bring myself to drink lager. Maybe Australian wine will do?

My calendar says it's also:

Taranaki Anniversary - (New Zealand)
Eight Hours Day (TAS, AUS)
Labour Day (Victoria, AUS)

Big day today. So happy whatever to whomever it applies. (what the heck is Eight Hours Day?)

I will state that now I am so craving a curry (mmm. papadums. my great weakness) and have the Kenya song stuck in my head *G*

The maple syrup I have at home, to be stereotypical and all that, so that's not as bad.

And don't worry too much about it *G*. I honestly don't think many people make a huge fuss about it. Especially in Britain, given that the Queen's address on the radio only goes to the commonwealth, doesn't actually play in Britain itself from what I'm reading (not that I've actually ... err .. listened to the broadcast ever that I can recall. *L*) :) So we probably hear a bit more about it out here in the commonwealth countries then you do there!

*grins*

Here, have an icon for that song...

I have both curry and maple syrup at home, and the latter's the good stuff, imported by jet setting parents, so I probably will have that as well, now.

I prefer Naan, though.

naan is wonderful as well - but the best place in town, the papadums come free as an 'appetizer' type thing and they refill it a lot, whereas the naan only comes with the meals. Thankfully I hang out with a lot of brits (and err ... live with one) so I know the best curry place in town. They brought the addiction with them and searched out the best way to fulfill it. ;)

And thanks for the icon *L* Gotta love Kenya.

I must say, looking at the commonwealth flags on that one site ... if it was a dinner, it would be a very exotic spread. Though personally, the only thing I would want from the barbados, bermuda, etc. right now would be their weather. And quick. *L*
