That's the thing, see. I always did that. Along with- well, I don't get people's names off their shirts or mailboxes, because I don't want to make them feel uncomfortable because a stranger knows too much about them, but I address people I don't know as 'sir' or 'ma'am' nine-tenths of the time. That really seems to catch people off guard.
Also my co-workers rib me for spelling it 'colour' but that's their problem.
