Today was a standby day, spent running errands for the operation, which is fine with me. I had to haul something like seven hundred cans and bottles of drinking water from our disaster kitchen in South Daytona to a shelter in Port Orange, then go to Sam's Club in Daytona and load up on snacks and supplies for the Port Orange shelter again. After that, they said I could go home as long as I kept my cell phone on, so I did. I needed to do laundry anyway.

I'm at the cafe at the moment. I'll probably head out fairly soon. Tomorrow I'm likely to have to open a shelter, though I don't know for sure- I've phoned the people at the Chapter and left a message to ping me back with an answer before tomorrow morning.

I hope to get hold of derien's mother in law soon, but for some reason I'm not getting an answer or a voice mail when I dial her number. Ah well. I'll take my laundry home and then go grab some extra stuff for the shelters in case I have to spend the night there when Ivan arrives in the northern end of the state.

The hallway of the University of Alaska- Fairbanks. The bear is in their museum building's entryway at the moment, but they're doing renovations and expansion and it could wind up anywhere.

PS- I'm still getting a trunk-line busy signal when I try to call your mother in law. I tried again last night.

I got email back from her just this morning. (I wrote and queried her, Sunday, when you got dead rings and we got a busy signal.)
She says:

My power went out Saturday about 5 PM and wasn't restored until last
evening. When the power went it blew the plug in phone and of course the other one with the answering machine doesn't work without electricity. I am now back up and running. This has been a hectic month. I will try and contact her again. Pat

Okay, that makes sense. Tell her not to bust her butt about it- I understand how these things can be and she should take care of anything else that she needs to do first. I don't want to be a bother, and since I'm no longer ready to throttle my partner, I'll be happy to meet her whenever is good.
