You do. The crossword puzzle the other day had "Friday or Preston: abbv" (answer: "sgt," of course), and I giggled aloud. (And the very next clue involved the Yukon, too.)

Cool! Ha, let's see those folks on the Alaska tour look at me funny for knowing about him despite being in the wrong generation for it now...

(Side note: if you type 'Sergeant Preston' into Google, no other modifiers, my fanfiction page is the second one that comes up. If you add the word 'Yukon' it comes up fifth. I am inordinately pleased with this.)

Weirdly enough, my calculus teacher is named Serge Preston.

(I think he's Russian, though. Definitely not Canadian)

*coughs a bit* Sorry, I was chewing gum when I read that. Probably shouldn't laugh and chew gum at the same time.

Far as I can tell from my (admittedly cursory) research, Preston is a Scottish name, or one that cropped up in Scotland by way of the English presence. The original form translated out to something like 'son of the priest'. Dunno how it'd crop up in a Russian family, but you never know, these days.

Well, I know the Serge is short for Sergei *shrug* And his accent is almost impenetrable but I would guess Russian or at least somewhere in the former USSR.

Oh, aha. According to his publication list his last name was originally Prishepionok - he must have changed it to Preston in '95

*wonders about ulterior motives* He might be a fan...too scared of him to ask though.
