I'd pray like hell the military's tests indicated that I stink in all the major categories they look for in a soldier, mostly. But in the modern army, I'm pretty sure that if they got around to drafting me of all people, I'd be put behind a desk and told to work the shiny military computers rather than handed a gun. So I'd probably roll with it. If they looked like they were gonna give me a combat position, I'd slap myself as hard as I could in the hopes that it'd wake me up, because anyone who can bounce her own arrow off her head during a round of practice probably shouldn't be given a firearm to begin with.

Nah, not really. Everyone's got stuff locked up in their skulls that doesn't normally get let out. Naturally some of that is eventually going to be more interesting than the stuff that does shine through in everyday life. It happens.

I dunno, I'd feel a little dorky trying again to do this meme - I posted it a month or so ago and nobody asked me anything. But let's see, I'll try to think of a question to ask you. Hm. Hmm... Well, might as well go for the classically geekish...

What is your name? (Not necessarily the name on your birth certificate, or the name you go by on line, or whatever, but how do you think of yourself?)

What is your quest? (What's your goal in life? What impact do you want to make? Are you on track towards making it?)

What is your favorite color? (Be specific now, with special emphasis on why, and any incidents involving that color that stand out in your mind...)

(Hey, I could have asked about the capital of Assyria for the last one. Or airspeeds of swallows. I'm keeping it simple.)

When it comes right down to it? 'Jess', 'J.', and 'Camwyn' are all about equal. The name on my birth certificate is all right, but I've added a few names to it over time- the Catholic Sacrament of Confirmation is a wonderful thing. When I'm being addressed by the voices in my head, 'Jess' is the form most often used. So that works. 'J.', well, I'll turn around immediately if someone calls that out, and as for 'Camwyn', I chose it. That makes it mine. Of course, by that rationale then Zhang Huaiying is also my name- it's just that only my Chinese-speaking friends ever use that. (However, hearing it spoken, or even just 'Huaiying', triggers the Cocktail Party Effect. I will notice if the name is spoken, even when it is not addressed to me. So that really makes it my name.)

My quest? To get the three-volume saga of the New Space Age and the colonization of Sidh and the conflict between the Astro-Engineers and the telepaths over the direction the Sidh colony will take and the eventual rise of the... er... right, not giving away the plot any more. To get that written, and published, and then use it as a springboard to get my other stuff written and published and thereby make a start on changing the world by putting my ideas into a palatable form for the public to get interested in. It's taking me forever, mostly 'cos I get intimidated by the amount of unfamiliar physics involved in the actual hard tech part of things. I'm better with the characters.

And colour? Green. Deep, dark green, like the Crayola crayon labeled just 'green', or a little darker. Like long-needled pine trees, or like really intense Colombian emeralds, or like maple leaves in mid-summer with the sun coming through them. I like the colour because it's alive, and because it's the colour of my favourite gemstone (happens to be my birthstone), and because I am very fond of Silver Age Green Lantern, and, well, there you go.

1. My cat died for no good reason. Hobbes was a little over a year old, and he hadn't been neutered yet; my mother let him out at night so that he'd spray somewhere other than the basement. He came home one day with cuts on his head (I'm pretty sure they were from a female that had been prowling around), and scratched me when I tried to hold him still long enough to check for other injuries. The veterinarian we brought him to told us that we lived in a rabies emergency zone and that the quarantine on an unvacinnated cat was six months. Because he'd scratched me, Dad said we had to have him tested for rabies. I knew in my heart that he hadn't been infected, and the test proved me right- but there's only one rabies test, and it's invariably fatal. Frankly, the death of my grandmother was less sad, because for her it was at least a release from terrible suffering. But Hobbes died for no reason at all.

2. I've never had any sort of encounter or experience that's left me thinking that I've been in the presence of a ghost, poltergeist, or other form of the restless dead. Not for lack of trying, mind you. It's just never happened. Spirits in the sense of living representatives of the forces of nature or the animal / plant kingdoms? Yes.

3. One with a great deal of creativity and energy, and a combination of love for Her creation and a desire to see it work itself out without Her having to constantly poke it to make things come out right.
