You know, I added you as a friend after reading your brilliant summation of the Sil, but I had NO idea we had so much stuff in common. My interest list would be three hundred items long but I had to pare it down a little.....

Oh, and I got two emails yesterday from people looking to put the Thousand Word Silm on their websites. One was lotrspoofs.com, and the other's a Brazilian site that wanted to translate it into Portuguese. Someone apparently submitted it to ringbearer.org... the mind boggles.

Why didn't someone nominate you for a Mithril Award???? *slaps own head in dismay for not thinking of this before* The Thousand Word was far more brilliant than any of the other soggy stuff nominated in the humor category.

How do you translate "stabbity fiery burny death" into Portuguese? Can the proper nuances be expressed? I can do it in Russian, though.

This is the thirdFOURTH time I've attempted to post a reply to you, because it keeps whining that 'your message is blank! at least type something!' Idiot web form! No biscuit for you!

Anyway. Am guessing that Brazilian guy will draw on the vocabulary of action movies for his nuances. We'll see. I did have to laugh as I looked at the babelfish translation of the comments the folks at his site made (someone had originally posted it in English, but the commenters used Portuguese). There were several to the effect of 'I could just see this in Monty Python cartoon style', or 'I could see this with the voices from South Park'...

Genius is transcendant, my dear, and should not be fettered by such petty annoyances as language translation and nuances of slang. The essential message will flow forth, Lacanian subtext intact. And if Brazilian Guy gets it wrong and you suddenly find yourself being firebombed with copies of HOME Volume X soaked in gasoline by irate Portuguese speakers everywhere, I got your back.

Wait! Just remembered that since you published the Thousand Word Sil in 2004, I can nominate it for the 2004 awards next year along with your thousands of other fans....*immediately makes note in Palm to start harassing Mithril Awards Committee on January 1, 2005*

Much appreciated- the back-watching, I mean; I have noticed that a number of places that reference the Thousand Word Silm make a point of repeating my line about 'no hell in Arda, gonna be eaten by a Balrog', and the last thing I need is to have someone summon up a Portuguese-speaking Gothmog and send it to New Jersey.

Huzzah on the Mithril Awards thing! I have no idea how those work, so I shall leave the nomination process in your capable hands. I've got the Thousand Word Silm on my own web site as well as here in my LJ, if you need another link or something.

And oh, yeah. I spend an inordinate amount of time at the Natural History Museum in the Lila Acheson Wallace Hall of Extinct Mammals and their Relatives, gawping at the fossil hoofers. Let the little kids have the dinosaurs if they want. I'm sure they'll be fine. Me and Megaloceros have a thing going on, y'know?
